Don't count out Ed Orgeron just hitherto.
LSU entered Saturday's pun against No. 20 Florida on the heels of succeeding losings to Auburn and KY and dealing with a onslaught of injuries to its upmost players. Two geezerhood removed from a national championship, the hot seat mouth for Orgeron had never been hotter.
And so how would LSU reply?
The Tigers were double-digit underdogs at home, merely wrong-side-out in their best offensive functioning of the season in an emphatic 49-42 triumph in Capital of Louisiana.
LSU entered Saturday's game averaging retributive 83.3 rushing yards per biz, the one-fourth-worst in the nation. Against Todd Grantham's defense, LSU almost quadrupled that. The Tigers went for 321 yards and three touchdowns on 45 carries with Tyrion Davis-Price carrying most of that load.
Davis-Leontyne Price had 287 yards on the season when Saturday's game began. Against the Gators, he co-ordinated that. Davis-Price plant a school record with 287 yards on 36 carries. He too scored deuce-ac touchdowns in the gain.
The successful score, though, came courtesy of a quarter-down touchdown pass away Max President Lyndon Johnso. Facing fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, Orgeron kept his offense along the battlefield and they delivered. Johnson faked to the left and came back rightfulness, hitting Jaray Jenkins for the score.
On the ensuing possession, Damone Clark intercepted Florida quarterback Marcus Antoniu Henry Hobson Richardson, the freshman who came on for Emory Jones and LED a ferocious comeback.
Richardson threw for 167 yards, hurried for 37 yards and scored four unconditional touchdowns in relief of Jones, but it was not enough. This would switch off to be LSU's day.
LSU had big lead, FL battled back
Thanks to ii first-half interceptions — one aside Jones and some other by Richardson — LSU was competent to leap out to a 21-6 lead former in the first half.
Florida would cut that booster cable to 21-13 at the break when Jones found Justin Shorter connected a Hail Mary as the first gear-incomplete clock expired.
It seemed like that fun would grant the Gators a boost going into the second half. Instead, Casey Jones opened the second half by throwing a pick-six to LSU's Dwight McGlothern to make LSU's pencil lead 28-13.
That mistake from Daniel Jones prompted Florida coach Dan Mullen to make the switch to Henry Hobson Richardson, the galvanic freshman who has shown flashes of brilliance but has served as the backup to Jones.
The move paying off. Richardson led four consecutive touchdown drives to first-class honours degree tie the score at 35-35 and later 42-42 with 9:14 to play. The only problem was that Florida's defense could not let a stop.
And when LSU went beforehand with 3:30 to go, Sir Ralph David Richardson made a freshman mistake on the ensuing drive by throwing one into traffic for the decisive interception.
What does this average for LSU?
Orgeron's definitely not retired of the woods yet. The Tigers improved to 4-3 with the win and relieve have Ole Miss, Alabama River, Arkansas and Texas A&M on the docket. The Ole Miss and Alabama games are connected the road.
LSU is a program with national championship aspirations, and active director Robert Falcon Scott Woodward was not the one who hired Orgeron. He's known for pursuing prominent-diagnose coaches. And unless there is some marvelous run from this team o'er the last half of the harden, a change seems more verisimilar than non.
Tranquil, with so much a banged up roll, Saturday's effort from the Tigers cannot be discounted. The play of the offensive line and rushing fire was especially impressive. IT's a performance that wish give Orgeron some breathing room, leastwise for now.
What about FL?
Florida dropped to 4-3 with the loss and is quietly 4-6 all over its survive 10 games, dating stake to the remnant of the 2022 time of year.
The protective issues that have plagued the Gators under Mullen and experienced defensive coordinator Todd Grantham remain — especially against quality competition.
The Gators have a goodbye adjacent workweek in front facing No. 1 Empire State of the South. The last four games connected the schedule — South Carolina, Samford, Missouri and Sunshine State State — are much more manageable.
Nonetheless, Mullen is going to face some troublesome questions in the coming weeks.
